Mission
The Oriens Music Competition inspires the next generation to perform music with East Asian influences, forging connections across communities and transforming local appreciation into a global cultural perspective.
Dates
February 1, 2026 (11:59 PM Central Time): Registration and video submission deadline
February 8, 2026: Preliminary results announced via email and on www.Facebook.com/TrioOriens
February 22, 2026: Final round and award ceremony at the Culture Center of Taipei Economics and Cultural Office.

Guidelines
Contestants must be born on or after September 1, 2006.
Contestants are permitted to be part of multiple ensembles.
Each ensemble entry should consist of 2 to 6 musicians.
Each ensemble is limited to one piano.
Instrumentation comprises violin, viola, cello, string bass, and piano. Contact us if your instrument isn't listed; we will confirm eligibility via email.
The ensemble must maintain consistent instrumentation for both music selections.
No personnel changes are allowed after entry submission.
All registration fees are non-refundable.
Failing to meet all the requirements will result in disqualification.
Rating Criteria
Participants will be evaluated on their musical interpretation, technical clarity and precision, collaborative harmony and unity, performance presentation, and overall artistry.
An audition panel will review all submissions. Their decisions are final.
Repertoire Requirements:
Each ensemble must perform two pieces:
One piece with Asian influence, elements, or composer. Click here for the repertoire reference.
One piece from the classical genre (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or 20th Century) that best reflects your ensemble's level
The total length of the performance is limited to 12 minutes.
Additional Guidelines
Your mandatory and chosen pieces must be the same in the preliminary round and the final round.
Performances exceeding the time limit will be interrupted during the final round.
Please email triooriens@gmail.com for approval if you are unsure that your chosen piece is acceptable before registration.
Video Recording Requirements
Two public YouTube links, one for each music selection.
Unedited recordings: movements recorded in one take, audio from the same take.
Continuity: each piece must be recorded in a single, continuous take. Performers may take a brief pause between movements, even if the score is marked attacca.
No editing: videos must not be edited or spliced.
Sound: use of an external microphone is allowed.
All ensemble members must be visible together, in the same space, throughout the recording.
The upper body of all ensemble members must be fully included in the video.
Visuals: use a stationary camera position without any panning or zooming. No school names or logos should be visible.
Resolution: minimum 1280x720 (720p).
Please upload your videos to YouTube and include the links during the registration process. Please ensure the video title is in this format:
"Oriens 2026 Chamber Competition" followed by the Ensemble's Name, the composer's last name, work, and movement.

Oriens 2026 Chamber Competition, Trio Oriens, Claude Debussy Piano Trio in G major, L5, Mvt 1 - Andantino con molto allegro
File retention: Please keep your original videos; they may be requested later.
